Poetry Out Loud and Spoken Word
Acting I is beginning a unit on Poetry and Spoken Word. Students will choose a poem from the Poetry Out Loud website to perform to the class. In addition, students will be creating their own spoken word pieces. Our driving question for the next month and a half is:
How do you speak your truth?
7th period acting class will be taking a preliminary survey here.

Educational Theater Conference, NYC
From L to R --> Daisy Ochoa, Mensur Djukanovic, Princess Decano, Marie Iachetta, Kenny Shewraj, Wilian Mejia (not pictured: Elizabeth Tejada)
On October 22, a group of seven theater students attended the 4th Annual EdTA Conference at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. Students participated in dance, acting, and technical theater workshops. One student participant, Kenny Shewraj, was elected as a State Thespian Officer! He will work with STOs from other schools as well as EdTA staff to plan next year's conference and make high school theater in NYC STRONG! Another student participant, Marie Iachetta, won a Wicked poster, signed by the current cast. Incredible!

Playwriting went to see "Motherhood Out Loud," a series of monologues and short scenes about the joys and tears of motherhood, from giving birth to letting go. It is currently playing at 59th E. 59th Street Theaters, produced by Primary Stages, who generously donated tickets for students to attend.

Superheroes- David Zhang, 3rd Period
This week in Theater class were doing a project on super hero's. I love super hero's so this will be a interesting project. I grew up watching super hero shows and movies and I think this project will just make my enjoyment of super hero's even better. My hero has ninja characteristics because I love ninjas. I got the whole idea of making a ninja hero from Naruto the anime which is based on a ninja of the leaf village who is on a quest to be the hokage of the village. My favorite super hero would probably be Iron Man. I love Iron Man because he's half man and half robot. I would love to be Iron Man for a day and save people. Iron Man is rich, strong, and smart who wouldn't want to be him? Being acknowledge as a hero is great, but the hero has to put aside his or her social life and that's pretty hard. I can imagine being called to help someone every second and not have time for myself. Life as a super hero isn't easy and I don't think I could handle it. I think being a super villain is easy because citizens never want you around and you can cause mayhem whenever you want. Maybe I can handle the life of a super villain. I would love to be the Blizzard for a day because of his ice powers. Turning anything to ice would be awesome and i'm always cool ^_^.

Tragedy, Blogs, and Wikis- Min, Intro to Drama
The past week in Intro Theater 10/3 - 10/7 we worked on a group project, where we needed to make our own scene or play. We got into three to four people in a group and talked about a tragedy play, where we had to pick three characters, and a chorus, write our own script, synopsis and make our own designed cover. In our scene we needed also include a chorus, that had to come out atleast 3 times in the scene. The scene also had to include three or more pages. We worked on this all throughout the week and on Monday we went to the Library to learn how to use a wiki. We set up our own wikipages for our class, Intro to Drama. This week went by quick and it was great to learn new things... like this journal im writing on, blogspot. Hopefully throughout the year, it will be more exciting to learn new things and just have fun.
Fighting- Faye, Theater of the Oppressed
Today, in theater class we did interesting activities. We had to pretend we were either a Jelly Fish, or a Sea Horse and try to sword the other team. It was pretty funny, everyone is different in class therefore they all bring different energies. I got to talk about my day to two partners, which was enjoyable. I like talking about my mornings because I'm always happy and love to share it with others. Hearing my friends talk about their mornings was interesting because I had to write down the words that jump out most at me. I enjoy every lesson in class.
Fighting is something I don't enjoy doing, I try to avoid it. When my boyfriend and I fight it upsets me so I try to just say sorry, and move on. Sometimes the other person you argue with can't move on so it turns into one big failure. My mom and I tend to bump heads a lot, I try to avoid fighting with her by telling her there's no reason to argue. That doesn't work either! But hey, at least I tried. I don't like fighting because it makes me very depressed.
